Don’t freak out, but today is the very last day to get health insurance for 2017.

With the current rules of Affordable Care Act, this means you cannot get health insurance for another nine months unless you have a qualifying event. A qualifying event is when a life event happens such as losing health insurance coverage through a job, turning 27 and falling off of your parents’ plan, buying a house, having a baby and a lot more. You can see a full list of qualifying events here. If you do qualify for a qualifying event, you have 60 days from day of event to purchase health insurance.

Because we’re not exactly sure what the future will hold for the Affordable Care Act, we highly recommend buying insurance now. By buying health insurance now, you sign a contract that means you will have health insurance for the entirety of 2017. No one will be able to take your health insurance away from you. Health insurance for 2018 is currently up in the air as several politicians aim to repeal and partially replace the Affordable Care Act.
