We have some bad news, y’all.

In the state of Texas and around the country, many major health insurance providers are phasing out PPO plans. Some still exist, but finding one is like finding a unicorn in a stack of unicorns.

We know. It sucks.

Why are PPO plans so awesome? They typically offer large physician networks, and you don’t need to select a primary care doctor when you apply.

…Sorry. We’ll quit pointing out how great PPOs are now.

But if your PPO has vanished, don’t worry, you have other options!

There are plenty of good HMO, POS and EPO plans you can apply for.

-POS (Point of Service) plans and EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization) plans are most like a PPO plan in that you don’t need to select a PCP (primary care physician) upon applying AND you don’t need a referral from your PCP to see a specialist. However, POS and EPO networks just aren’t as vast as PPO networks.

-An HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan has a more limited network and you have to get a referral from your primary care physician to go see a specialist, BUT you’ll probably be paying lower monthly premiums, so that’s good.

It majorly stinks that providers are phasing out PPOs, but we can help you find a plan that fits your needs. Give us a shout.
