We are starting a series called Word on the Street where we interview people on the street about their experiences with health insurance.

Name: Geoff
Profession: Filmmaker and professor
Location: Denver, Colorado
Story: I’ve been lucky enough to work for public universities, which is a state job. The majority of my insurance is covered by the university, so it’s not a huge monthly payment for me. I think universities offer some of the best coverage out there, and that coverage let’s me pick my own doctors, dentists and specialists. Almost every one I know that I don’t work with has a much tougher insurance situation. They are either uninsured or have insurance packages that don’t cover the doctors they want or the actual services they need. I don’t know what to tell them. I don’t think there is a good answer for them. I think I would tell them to try to find an advocate to help them navigate the healthcare system, but that’s hard to find.
